NEWBORN KOSOVA: Jointly Published by:
The price for the book has been set at €8.00 / $15.00 in the US and Canada. The author has decided that all profits from the book shall go to the Education for Peace Scholarships Program. To order your copy, please email us at info@bislimi.org or publications@bislimi.org Praise for Newborn Kosova: "Despite any criticism, the paper - The Spoil
Effect: How Remittances Affect Developing Countries - The Case of Kosova
- which is a major part of this book, is a strong policy analysis that
is well written and well designed. The recommendations made also seem
reasonable - within the framework set forth by Bislimi and Kayhan - but
whether the institutions are at hand to make the suggested reforms
effective is admittedly problematic."
The problems and issues explored in this book are quite
important for determining
the future paths of Kosovo. Development does not happen
on its own.
Development requires particular attention to all the
problems hindering it.
Therefore, exploring such problems is a good first step,
especially when
considering the fact that no problem can be solved unless
it is well defined.
Kosovo stands today at a very crucial crossroad. It may
start developing – both
economically and socially – and become a sustainable and
prosperous country. Or
it may stagnate further, which can only bring more
economic and social
depression, both of which are terribly destabilizing
factors.
By exploring several development challenges and issues –
such as the effects of
remittances on their recipients in Kosovo, for instance –
Faton “Tony” Bislimi has
provided significant insights for development
practitioners and policymakers who
care about Kosovo's future.
Overall, Bislimi's work, as a young development
economist, is one of the first in-
depth studies of this nature that provides not only good
explorations of problems,
but it also gets into some policy recommendations that
may help resolve the
problems at hand.
I trust this book can serve as a good foundation for a
constructive debate on these
important issues for Kosovo
